Designs inspired by local culture stand to win cash prizes of up to $5,000 at an inaugural competition for lifestyle products and graphic design. Called the Singapore Creative Awards, the contest is jointly organised by Singapore Press Holdings' (SPH) Chinese Media Group and the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China's Singapore branch. Launched yesterday, it is open to the public and is a lead-up to the 200th anniversary of Sir Stamford Raffles' landing next year.

The winners will be picked by seven judges. The judging panel includes Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts senior lecturer Winnie Tan.
